WHAT WE LOVE...

When the Apex City of Bath Hotel opened, it was the perfect addition to a city crying out for a place for families to stay. The Edinburgh-based Apex Hotels group has transformed an council building into a grand, modern looking hotel using Bath stone and glass. The bedrooms are lovely and large, and the restaurant is good, but the main draw is the relaxing 15-metre pool - together with a steam room and spa.

THE DETAILS

Location

The Roman Baths and the shops of Milsom Street are close; head for the Raven Pub and Canary Gin Bar on Queen Street.

The Apex is in the heart of Bath city centre, and a short walk from the Royal Victoria Park and River Avon.
By car: Bristol is around 12 miles away (30 minutes) Cardiff 50 miles (1.5 hours) and London 120 miles (3 hours). Long-stay parking is available on Charlotte Street a few minutes from the hotel.
By rail: London Paddington to Bath Spa takes around 1 hour 20 minutes. The Apex is a 5-minute taxi ride from the station. thetrainline.com

Style & Character

We love the spaciousness, the clean, modern look, and the unfussy nature of the place, which you don't get at some Bath hotels. This is a hotel with families in mind but it's also managed to capture the business and event market though, so it might feel a little corporate during the week.

Service & Facilities

Slipping into the pool for a quick dip and chilling out in the sauna before dinner is wonderful.

Rooms

We loved that you can adapt the large family rooms to have two king-sized beds or one king-sized and two singles. All the rooms have big TV screens with full Sky Sports and movie package - and kids will love the complimentary bathroom rubber duck too!

City, Superior, Family, Deluxe
Facilities include: king-sized beds, TVs, Wi-Fi, ensuite bathrooms, walk-in shower, Elemis toiletries, air conditioning

Food & Drink

The restaurant is lively and busy, with an informal, buzzy, chatty atmosphere. We loved the smoked duck starter with cucumber and ginger from The Smokery menu, and the succulent Lamb Wellington.

The Orange Artichoke: international menu, Scandi design. Mains from £8.95-£28.50. Open for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.
