WHAT WE LOVE...

The Intercontinental blends history with modern comfort. It occupies the treasury building of 1851, the first purpose-built government office in Sydney. It has a handsome sandstone façade and is home to the oldest operating lift in the Southern Hemisphere. The centrepiece of the hotel is The Cortile, a round atrium bordered by sandstone arches, which now serves as the lobby lounge. At the rear is a high-rise containing modern rooms and suites, some with harbour views, and an indoor pool on the 31st floor. Near to Circular Quay and the financial district, it's popular with business travellers but also close to the touristy spots. It's a short walk to The Opera House, the botanic gardens and the ferry terminal.

The Meat and Wine Co is more than a steakhouse, with seafood options, classic puds and an impressive cheese menu. We love the aged grass-fed Monte ribeye steak infused with the essence of 14-day slow-cooked black garlic.

The Treasury: breakfast, open daily.
