WHAT WE LOVE...

In the quiet, well-heeled village of Sedgefield, north of Darlington, with a village green and racecourse, this pleasant looking pub is a real surprise. Inside it reveals not only a very large and sassy bar and dining area but, in the courtyard behind, a collection of enormous, wildly over-the-top bedrooms that ooze seduction: velvet fabrics, ornate headboards, rich colours, copper baths and private hot tubs. Clearly, this is a place for romance, celebrations, date-nights and proposals - or just a fun night away. The restaurant serves up punchy bistro-style dishes while the bar has a handsome selection of wines - plenty of Champagnes - and local beers. There's a sun-trap patio, too, and a bit of a pig theme…

Style & Character

The Impeccable Pig is ideal for couples wanting to celebrate, have a romantic night away, park the children with the grandparents and have a night off - and who prefer fun to pretty flowers. The witty and whimsical decorative touches - portraits of pigs as snazzy gentlemen, vintage advertising posters, fake street lamps - are fun to spot.

Service & Facilities

Tuck yourself away with a cup of tea around the fire, or sit up at the bar and be entertained by the bartenders while doing a spot of people-watching.

Rooms

Each room has its individual high points - a mirrored ceiling, gold slipper bath or leopard-print carpet. We loved the Pigs Might Fly room with its cloud wallpaper, midnight-blue colours, seven-foot bed and nickel-plated circular bath. Each room is huge, and just cries out for you to drift around in a bathrobe, cocktail in hand.

Premier, Premier with hot tub, Premier Suite with sauna & hot tub, Master Suite
Facilities include: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, Illy coffee machine, flat-screen TV, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi

Food & Drink

Sunday lunch - wittily called Sunday Pig-Out - has a good range (including fish and vegetarian) with all the trimmings, is good value, and runs until early evening. The wine list is exceptional for a pub - around 12 Champagnes - and has a good spread of both popular and interesting, at decent prices.

Restaurant: bistro-style dining, modern European cuisine. Dishes include Wagyu burger, trio of Yorkshire lamb and chicken Milanese. Open Mon-Sat for lunch and dinner, Sun for lunch only. Sunday Pig-Out menu from £21.
