WHAT WE LOVE...

If staying somewhere stylish is more important than sticking to a limited budget, the five-star Nobis Hotel Copenhagen has to come high up your wish list. Opened in 2017, it may be pricey but it's undeniably handsome, and the Danish capital's only member of Design Hotels. The 1903 building was formerly home to the Royal Danish Academy of Music and in its new hotel incarnation its grand neoclassical features have been joined by the kind of chic contemporary interiors that grace the pages of glossy magazines. The restaurant and bar are good at their game, too, serving cut-above food and cocktails, and the location is handy for sightseeing, within easy walking distance of cultural attractions, entertainment possibilities and transport connections.

It's a ten-minute walk from here to the Islands Brygge waterfront, where you can rent a boat and swim in the harbour pool.

Rooms

If the budget is bottomless, it has to be the grand, high-ceilinged Nobis Suite, which comes with extra luxuries like a free bar. Bathrooms are small but handsome, entirely clad in Italian marble, with good showers and desirable toiletries from Swedish fragrance brand Byredo.

Facilities include: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, bathrobes and slippers, hairdryer, coffee machine, gym and spa access, free Wi-Fi

Food & Drink

Next to NOI is the Marble Bar, which also serves food and has a list of creative cocktails, many based on Danish spirits. A winter dish of lumpfish roe served with buttermilk, chive oil and a buckwheat pancake was prettily plated and delicious.

Restaurant NOI: European cuisine, locally-sourced ingredients. Mains include pan-seared salmon, Nobis burger and braised veal cheeks. All-day dining, open daily.
Marble Bar: elegant bar, exclusive cocktails and curated spirits. Caviar and champagne available. Open daily, 4pm-12am.
