WHAT WE LOVE...

Perched on the cliffs of Mononaftis Bay on Crete's northern coast, a 30-minute drive from Heraklion and its airport, the 49 open plan rooms and suites at this wellness retreat offer both seclusion and luxury. Beautifully designed in earthy tones using plenty of natural materials, the expanses of stone, wood and taupe and beige fabrics create an instant sense of calm. Each unit boasts its own saltwater pool and guests can enjoy fab facilities including a sleek Moroccan-style spa, two gyms, daily yoga sessions, basketball, tennis and padel courts. The impressive cuisine has a strong health focus, and lounging by the attractive bar will prove irresistible.

Bedrooms

The Loft Suite has one of the best views of the sunset. The bathroom and lounge area is on the ground floor, with the bedrooms on the mezzanine. The spacious terrace has a seating area, dining table, loungers and saltwater pool. The real seclusion of the room coupled with the gorgeous décor meant we seldom wanted to leave.

Restaurants & Bars

Bartender George, from a local village, was hilarious company and ended up pouring us both sambuca shots. Cremnos lunch options include a spinach salad with feta, filo crisp, yogurt, dill sauce and sesame, and beetroot ravioli with fennel, orange, balsamic and pine nuts - both pretty as a picture as well as healthy and tasty.

Cremnos: nutritious Greek cuisine, local and seasonal ingredients. Open for lunch and dinner.
