WHAT WE LOVE...

The Duke of Wellington features strongly in the quirky artworks and fun sketches of this 18th-century characterful inn, the 12th public house from Surrey-based Red Mist Leisure. Each of the 25 luxuriously-appointed bedrooms features king- or super-king-sized beds with duck-down bedding, fluffy towels, bathrobes, fragrant Espa products, coffee machine and welcome ale. Décor is in dove greys and greens in keeping with the countryside all around. Food is locally sourced and dishes expertly executed. If you're looking for a relaxing escape in beautiful countryside, this historic pub located on the Wellington Estate is the perfect bolt hole - and your four-legged friend is welcome here too.

Rooms

The Mallavelly 1799 Room had huge bedside lamp shades which were as heavily patterned as the cavernous bathroom with Victorian floor tiles. We loved that Espa's bergamot and jasmine scent pervaded the room - absolutely gorgeous.

Food & Drink

Local craft ales and wines include a sparkler from Hattingley Valley in Hampshire. The walnut-crusted goat's cheese crottin with pear and mustard dressing was creamy, nutty and absolutely yum.

The Wellington Arms: intimate, elegant restaurant. Pub classics, local and seasonal produce. Mains include chicken & ham pie, pork belly and grills. All-day menu, open daily. Saturday brunch served 10am-3pm.
