WHAT WE LOVE...

Strolling back from a cracking pub supper through a heavily scented rose garden, pause for a moment to picture a young Anne Boleyn doing the exact same thing. It's easy to imagine these moments while staying in a four-poster bed at Hever Castle; wondering if King Henry VIII stole a kiss from Anne Boleyn on the drawbridge - or imagined beheading her as he paced the Staircase Gallery. Guests enjoy out-of-hours access to the grounds, and moonlit strolls through the Italian garden and dawn dips in the lake will really give you the sense of belonging to a world of royal romance and intrigue.

THE DETAILS

Location

Dinner is only served at the castle on select evenings, but strolling to the atmospheric King Henry VIII pub nearby is a delight.

The B&B is set in 125 acres of landscapes gardens, with a lake and river, close to the pretty Kent market town of Edenbridge.
By car: Hever Castle is 90 minutes' drive from London, and just over 1 hour from Brighton. There is free parking.
By train: A direct train from London Bridge to Hever station takes 50 minutes. Guests should pre-book a taxi from the station, which is a five-minute drive away. thetrainline.com
