A boutique hotel in a trendy south Manchester suburb, Didsbury House is a place to relax. Interiors in the Victorian villa have been thoughtfully put together by the owner and combine original features - such as stained glass and elaborate cornicing - with bold wallpaper and handpicked pieces of art. Couples come to celebrate here, enjoying cosy drinks in the lounge or on the walled terrace, and lazing in the hotel's signature roll-top baths, which are in all but entry-level rooms. Those visiting the city for business will also appreciate a luxurious contrast to bland chains. Spa and beauty treatments can be arranged in the hotel's treatment room but there are no other leisure facilities.

You can get to the city centre easily - but can also escape it on a pleasant stroll in the nearby Fletcher Moss Park.

Didsbury House is in a leafy suburb in the south of Manchester, with plenty of its own shops and pubs, around 15-minutes' drive from the city centre.
By car: the hotel is 4 hours 15 mins from London, 1 hour 30 mins from Birmingham and 2 hours 40 mins from Newcastle. There is free parking at the hotel.
By train: London Euston to Stockport takes just under 2 hours. The hotel is a 10-minute taxi ride from the station.
