WHAT WE LOVE...

The long-term favourite of visiting celebrities and footballers, The Lowry Hotel is a modern five-star with a spa, spacious rooms and suites, and a restaurant overlooking the River Irwell. Named after one of the city's most famous artists, there are changing art exhibitions in public areas, Manchester and music-themed photographs on corridor walls, and a sculpture hanging from the ceiling on the way to the restaurant. Couples visiting Manchester on a city break will enjoy the hotel's bar with a large sun terrace, while families will appreciate all of the added touches for children, such as "Lowry Loot" to spend on treats during a stay. The spa has six treatment rooms, a relaxation room and a sauna but no pool.

THE DETAILS

Location

The setting means some rooms have river views and you're close to some of Manchester's high-end shops and attractions such as Manchester Cathedral.

Just over the bridge in Salford, the hotel is still in close proximity to Manchester's key attractions such as People's History Museum and Manchester's Selfridges.
By car: around 4 hours and 15 minutes from London, 1 hour 45 minutes from Birmingham. There is parking at the hotel at £24 per day.
By train: There are regular trains to Manchester Piccadilly from Birmingham New Street (1 hour 30 minutes) and London Euston (2 hours 10 minutes) as well as most other major cities. Manchester Piccadilly station is a 20-minute taxi ride from the hotel. thetrainline.com
