WHAT WE LOVE...

First recorded as an inn and hotel in 1651, The Hoste is one of the oldest buildings in the area, and overlooks the green in the small Georgian town of Burnham Market. A few miles from the North Norfolk coast, it offers well over 50 rooms spread across three sites. Most are in the original inn or right behind it in a newer extension, while some are in a smart townhouse opposite. The Railway House, 800 yards away, offers a quirky, converted train carriage and three self-catering cottages. Both the snug, beamed bar and dining areas are popular with locals as well as guests for drinks, or classic dishes using seasonal local produce.

THE DETAILS

Location

We love Burnham Market's enticing boutique shops selling clothing, books, art, gifts, local produce and fresh fish.

The hotel is located in the centre of Burham Market but has North Norfolk's popular beaches, including Brancaster, just a few miles' away.
By car: The Hoste is around 3 hours from London and Birmingham, and 2 hours from Cambridge. There is free parking for guests.
By train: London Kings Cross to King's Lynn station takes 1 hour 49 mins. From King's Lynn there is a regular bus service along the coast road - The Coast Hopper - or guests can take a 40-minute taxi. thetrainline.com

Rooms

Our favourite room is Number 5 in the old inn, where Norfolk hero, Admiral Lord Nelson, is said to have stayed. We also love the romantic reconditioned railway carriage, with a walk-in shower ensuite, that's a ten-minute walk from the main hotel.

Classic, Superior, Luxury, Divine, The Railway House Double, The Carriage, Railway Cottages
Facilities include: ensuite with shower, luxury toiletries, towels, tea and coffee facilities, desk, TV, phone

Food & Drink

Afternoon tea (three-tiered cake stand of sandwiches, cakes and scones) served in the lounge - with its leather sofas and oversize armchairs - is a real treat. Our favourite dish is the moules mariniere, aka Thomas Large's Brancaster mussels in white wine and cream sauce with French fries.

The Hoste Arms: Norfolk produce, seasonal specials, seafood, bar snacks, vegan menu. Local beers and fine wines. Mains from £13. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
