WHAT WE LOVE...

Understated on the outside but brimming with brilliance on the inside, this city-centre pub with rooms is a fantastic central Oxford base. Situated on a quiet residential road near the train station, it's perfect for car-free breaks in this handsome university city, with blockbuster attractions like the Ashmolean Museum and New Theatre Oxford just a short walk away. This hotel isn't one for vegetarians; the restaurant is all about steak and there's even a huge meat-ageing cabinet by the bar where you can see next month's cuts waiting patiently to be cooked. It's a simple and casual hotel with very few bells and whistles, but clever little touches make it an ideal and convenient stay.

Style & Character

With its cool, contemporary décor - think dark walls and sexy velvet cushions - this hotel is perfect for couples seeking a quiet bolthole or business travellers in need of a little space to work. The cosy booth seating in the bar is a lovely romantic spot for a date night dinner.

Service & Facilities

We loved the complimentary fruit and cold milk in the communal fridge outside the bedrooms, which meant we could make a morning coffee before the staff even arrived.

We stayed in room two which was a spacious haven with its own writing desk. Dyson air conditioners and electric heaters were provided so we could create maximum comfort - a welcome facility!

Room 1-7

Food & Drink

We ordered the 35-day aged côte de boeuf - a triumph in flavourful steak cooked to perfection. The side salad and buttered greens were almost as moreish as the steak itself.

The Porterhouse: elegant steakhouse, specialising in dry aged steaks. Cuts include côte de boeuf, chateaubriand and t-bone. Open daily for brunch, lunch and dinner.
