Vedema Resort, Megalohori, Santorini
Luxury resort Vedema is tucked away within the charming, sleepy, medieval village of Megalohori, having evolved from a 400-year-old wine cellar, a 100-year-old mansion and old village houses. The various properties, pools, two restaurants, wine bar, spa and gym are connected by narrow cobblestone walkways, many bordered by pretty beds of thick foliage and colourful flowers, providing plenty of privacy in a development that always feels secluded, never too crowded. The rooms, suites and villas are all comfortable and spacious; all have terraces and some have their own jacuzzi or pool too. The signature restaurant, spa, gym and wine bar are housed in hugely characterful ancient wine cellars. The attractive village is relatively unknown and delightfully tranquil, and has lovely tavernas, with beaches and other attractions nearby.
Ancient, attractive Megalochori village is less known to tourists and therefore much quieter than nearby Thira and Oia. It has several appealing tavernas and a lovely church and bell towers at its centre.
Discover the island's breathtaking landscapes, red and black sand beaches, or venture into the ancient city of Thira to learn more about its history.
By plane: direct flights to Thira take around 4 hours from London and Manchester. It's less than a 20-minute drive to the hotel. Free parking available. skyscanner.net

Food & Drink
Alati Restaurant has an impossibly cosy and atmospheric indoor seating area, and its 400-year-old wine canava is built from ancient volcanic stones. We loved the lamb, cooked in a traditional, local way; it was a small portion but deliciously crumbly and accompanied by the richest sauce. It went well with Vedema chips.
