WHAT WE LOVE...

Part of the Catalonia hotel chain, the 84-room Portal de l'Angel is a three-star hotel with at least four-star credentials in places. Housed in an elegant and sympathetically-restored townhouse with a handsome neoclassical façade and dating from 1876, it has some grand features, including a marble staircase running around a stunning atrium and a courtyard garden with palms and a pool, which is a rarity in the Gothic Quarter. The rooms are straightforwardly-designed, but of very good quality and some have terraces or balconies. It boast a fabulous central location, a stone's thrown from transport hub Plaça de Catalunya and numerous key sights and shopping areas, as well as a host of restaurants and bars.
