WHAT WE LOVE...

This 301-room hotel is very keenly priced, considering the swish, colourful interior design. It has a lively lobby bar area, patio and roof terrace, and the modern guest rooms are stylish, some having Juliet balconies. Though there's no restaurant (a buffet breakfast is served), numerous good cafes, bars and restaurants are near the hotel, which has a great location in the El Born neighbourhood, near the beach, the Picasso Museum and Ciutadella Park with its zoo. Children are welcome, and small pets can stay free of charge.

There's so much on the doorstep, with the trendy El Born neighbourhood and Barceloneta's beaches nearby, the greenery of Ciutadella Park and lots of restaurants, cafes and shops.

By plane: Fly to El Prat from London and Bristol (2 hours 5 mins) and Edinburgh (2 hours 40 mins). The hotel is a 20-minute drive away. Parking costs €20 per day. skyscanner.net

Style & Character

The hotel is for all ages, although those in their 40s and 50s seem to dominate. The striking ornamental tiles in public areas provide real atmosphere.

Rooms

The rooms are very similar and all one size (172 square feet), although those with a park view are more desirable than those with a courtyard view. We loved the simple yet stylish design; for example, the white tiled bathrooms have sleek white circular wash basins and black granite counters.

Food & Drink

Enjoy a beer or cocktail in the bar area, which has a large selection of gins. There's a decent breakfast buffet spread, including cereal, fruit, breads and pastries, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage.
