WHAT WE LOVE...

A stay in The Jockey Club means having access to a famous institution that used to only be open to members. It's a unique opportunity to experience a home-from-home, and a grand one at that, popular with royalty and historical legends alike. The walls are lined with fabulous paintings from Munnings - known as one of England's finest painters of horses - to more recent portraits, including the Queen; an avid horse racegoer and visitor to the Club. Breakfast is tasty and plentiful, and there are good places to dine nearby in Newmarket too. It's an ideal base for horse race enthusiasts but also anyone who loves elegant surroundings with a rich history.

A horse racing enthusiast or someone new to Newmarket and who wants a unique base for exploring the town will fall in love with The Jockey Club Rooms. It's wonderful walking to and from your bedroom in such a historically fascinating institution. The walls are adorned with racing artefacts that are intruging whether you're a fanatic or not.

The breakfast staff dress impeccably smartly and are very polite, as you'd expect in a private members' club. Guests get an actual key to unlock both the Club and bedroom; when you come in at night, it feels homely turning your own key in the outside door.

Rooms

Room two is on the ground floor and has a door opening onto the Club's manicured pretty walled garden. Its bathroom is incredibly spacious too - as big as the bedroom, it's a lovely bright and breezy space to soak in the bath and indulge in the Asprey toiletries.

Food & Drink

The breakfast room alcoves, with bench seats upholstered in green leather and a few fun equine paintings hanging behind you, are private and cosy, but still offer a nice view of the room. The eggs royale are particularly delicious. Perfectly poached eggs, beautifully balanced hollandaise and tasty juniper smoked salmon on top of lightly toasted muffins.
