WHAT WE LOVE...

This boutique hotel is as charming as the quintessentially English village in which it lies. Each of the 13 bedrooms has been tastefully furbished to a high standard, their nature-themed cushions, tumblers and pictures on the walls providing a cosy home-from-home feel. It's a great base for exploring the Surrey Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and watching the comings and goings of this picturesque sleepy village, often frequented by groups of cyclists and the horse riders particularly at weekends. There's no restaurant as such, although a splendid cooked breakfast is served, and the adjoining Hurtwood Inn, a separate business, serves top-notch Italian cuisine and innovative dishes courtesy of head chef Silvano Mazzoli.

Style & Character

Hurtwood will suit walkers, cyclists, outdoor enthusiasts, couples, business people and visitors looking for an alternative to a big hotel. Look out for the quirky signs, such as 'Please do not flush sanitary products, teabags, unpaid bills, hopes and dreams or goldfish down this toilet. It will not cope'.

Service & Facilities

We love the relaxed ambience - guests are welcome to bring drinks back from the Hurtwood Inn next door.

  • Terrace

There's a good variety of rooms on offer: room four has a poster bed, room one has an antique-style desk. Room eight, which has the original wooden beams of this 100-year-old former inn, is the most characterful.

Facilities include: king size bed, ensuite bathroom, Wi-Fi, smart TV, tea and coffee-making facilities

Food & Drink

We love that breakfast is always included in the room rate so there are no hidden extras. At the Hurtwood Inn next door, tagliolini pasta (cylindrical tagliatelle) with Devon crab is well cooked, tasty and the seafood beautifully fresh.

The Hurtwood Inn: pub & restuarant adjacent to hotel, Italian cuisine. Mon-Fri 5-9pm Sat-Sun 12-9pm. Mains from £13.50.
