WHAT WE LOVE...

Luxury tourism didn't exist in the south of Tenerife before the Bahía del Duque opened in 1993. It saw owners, the Zamarano family from capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife, spread their business interests even wider. They specialised in tobacco at first, before branching out into mineral water. The Zamaranos have invested €120 million in this, their flagship establishment, half in its construction and the remainder on adding the spa and villas in 2008. This exclusive five-star property has its very own helipad for VIPs, and celebrities to have stayed here include the likes of Brian May and Mariah Carey. They're guaranteed privacy in a resort spanning 250,00 square metres - it's so vast that it has three different receptions to check into!

Style & Character

Bahía del Duque is ideal for guests who like to be pampered, with more than 600 staff on hand to help. We love that designer Andrés Piñeiro went low-rise, styling the resort along the lines of a pueblo with 19 villas rather than skyscraper buildings.

Service & Facilities

The Canaries are perfect for stargazing because of their low light pollution and the hotel has its very own observatory.

Rooms

Casas Ducales are fit for a duke, mirroring iconic Santa Cruz de Tenerife properties: Palacete Martí Dehesa and Casa Maffiotte. We also love Villa Las Palmeras, one of Ortega's volcanic villas with a bamboo-roofed bedroom and basalt stone tub in the bathroom.

We love that the Beach Club's extravagant €32.95 grilled wreckfish, mashed potatoes, and caviar main is available to half-board guests for €14.
