WHAT WE LOVE...

These rooms take serviced apartments to a distinctly luxurious level. In one of Edinburgh's landmark buildings, the former headquarters of the Royal Bank of Scotland in the fashionable heart of the New Town, the airy apartments are furnished in a sleek yet unshowy style, with marble-topped kitchens, dark-wood floors, Italian furniture and cashmere throws.

The lack of fussy details creates big, relaxing (or working) spaces with generous bathrooms and fully-fitted kitchens. Apartments range from studio-sized to a three-bedroom penthouse. A clubby-style lounge-restaurant serves breakfast and light dishes, or the Hawksmoor steak and seafood restaurant (which is separately managed) is conveniently located on the ground floor. Staff are hotel-standard trained and will also happily whisk deliveries to your room. There's plenty of space for families and dogs too, plus a 24-hour gym.

Style & Character

Perfect for people who want a luxury hotel-style stay in the heart of the New Town but with the freedom and privacy of a spacious apartment. You'll love the mix of 1930s glamour - high ceilings, marbled surfaces, wood panelling, globe chandeliers - with a cool look of sexy deep colours, velvet sofas and black-and-white photography.

Rooms

Sixth floor rooms have landmark-spotting terraces but the fourth-floor one-bedroom apartments, with mezzanine bedrooms, are for romantics. We loved the simplicity of the design - though clearly luxurious, including cashmere throws - with lights in all the right places and no fussy ornaments.

Open Plan, One Bedroom, Two Bedroom, The Directors' Suite,
Three Bedroom Penthouse

Facilities include: fully equipped kitchen, living area, hairdryer, toiletries, TV, safe, free Wi-Fi

Food & Drink

The whisky list is impressive - over 75 Scottish single malts, alone - a fantastic introduction from the Lowlands to the Highlands, Speyside to Islay. Breakfast is pricey but be tempted: eggs Benedict with prosciutto, granola with coconut yogurt and berries, avocado with poached eggs (scrambled tofu for vegans) plus a full Scottish and vegetarian which will see you through to supper…

The Register Club: Scottish influenced snacks and afternoon tea. Dishes include Scottish venison sausage roll and Loch Fyne oysters. Larger plates from £12.
Hawksmoor: fine dining, Scottish cuisine including from steak to seafood. Open daily for dinner. Mains from £16.
