The Guitar Hotel, Hollywood, USA
WHAT WE LOVE...
The only surprise is that the Hard Rock Hotel group took this long to create a hotel in the shape of a musical instrument, which it built on the same site as an existing Hard Rock Hotel in 2019. Located half an hour north of Miami, it has 35 floors, stretching 450ft high, and 640 rooms. Its shape can be seen looming above the highway from a mile away, and overall it has the feel of something that should be on the Las Vegas strip, rather than just off a main road near a tiny town called Davie. But it aims to impress, and it certainly does, as its unique exterior contains a luxury hotel within. There are 25 bars and restaurants, an outdoor pool, a man-made beach area, a nightclub and concert hall, and it shares a casino with the Hard Rock Hotel. Rooms are spacious and well-appointed, and there are a handful of suites.

Location
The Flamingo Gardens and Zoological Park is a non-profit organisation and wildlife sanctuary which is home to alligators, bobcats, eagles and otters, as well as the eponymous flamingos, and over 3,000 species of rare, exotic, native, tropical and subtropical plants and trees.
The resort has everything you need. Hollywood beach and West Lake park are a 20-minute drive away, while Miami is 30 minutes.
By plane: flights from London to Fort Lauderdale take around 14 hours. The hotel is a 15-minute drive from the airport. Free parking on-site. skyscanner.net
Style & Character
If you like subtlety, this is not for you. But if you like Vegas-style décor, facilities and service, you'll be in your element. We appreciated the overall look and exterior - it's not often you can say you've stayed in a hotel shaped like a musical instrument.

Rooms
Rooms are decorated in calming, soothing tones, with white walls and cream furniture, and the occasional pop of colour. We loved the huge bed with its firm, comfortable mattress.

There's so much variety - even if you stayed here for a week you wouldn't run out of options. The General Tso's chicken at The BŌL was a standout - both crispy and sticky, paired with fresh, crunchy summer rolls.
The BŌL: Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine, open daily for lunch and dinner.
Rise Kitchen & Deli: 24-hour American diner. All-day breakfast, light bites and classics.
Cipresso: Italian-American cuisine with a twist. Dishes include handmade pasta and antipasti. Open for dinner, Wed-Sun.
