WHAT WE LOVE...

This hip hotel at a keen price in up-and-coming Queens boasts slick minimalist design incorporating industrial-chic materials like concrete, glass and hardwoods, along with scandi-style furniture. Good-sized rooms, high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows all promote a bright, spacious feel, and there are great views of the East River and Manhattan skyline, especially from the hotel's rooftop bar. The hotel feels a bit isolated but a good and increasing range of restaurants and bars are about a 20-minute walk away at Long Island City, while nearby stations boast four different subway lines into Manhattan.

THE DETAILS

Most New York visitors stay in Manhattan, which can be rather full on, and in places, touristy. Exploring a lesser-known neighbourhood with easy access to the key sights is a boon.

The hotel overlooks the 59th Street Bridge connecting Queens with Manhattan and there are several subway lines nearby.
By plane: flights from London, Manchester or Edinburgh to New York take 7 hours. It's a 45-minute drive from JFK airport. Paid parking available nearby. skyscanner.net
