WHAT WE LOVE...

On the edge of the Cotswolds, in the idyllic village of Castle Combe, The Manor House is a luxurious country house hotel at the bottom of a wooded valley, convenient for the M4 and Bath. It offers Michelin-star food and mainly attracts couples looking for romance, though friends will also love the peaceful surroundings, afternoon tea and excellent service and golfers come for the 18-hole championship course. Bedrooms are found either in the main house or in an adjacent row of cottages and there is an astonishing range of rooms to choose from.

Style & Character

The hotel is ideal for foodie couples looking to treat themselves to a decadent dinner and romantic walks in the Cotswolds and surrounding countryside. The house makes a great first impression with a grand, dark wood-panelled lounge at the entrance featuring a huge roaring fire and local family crests dotted about.

Service & Facilities

We love that there were tablets in bedrooms that let you order room service or read about the hotel's history from the comfort of your bed. Dogs are more than welcome, with a £50 charge per furry head per stay, including a dog bed, water bowl and a welcome treat. The local area has a great selection of dog walks.

Rooms

Our favourite room is the Lordsmeer Suite, with plenty of space, a super king-size bed and views onto the grounds at the front of the hotel. Cottage suites feature a bedroom upstairs, a log-burner or working fireplace downstairs and keys to your own front door in the village.

Food & Drink

The fun and engaging sommelier introduced the wine flight and the views, through mullioned windows, of the grounds. The loin of venison and faggot with trompette mushrooms and sloe gin sauce was tender, mellow and savoury.

Bybrook: Michelin-starred elegant fine dining. Open Wednesday-Sunday 6-8.30pm.
The Full Glass Bar: Informal dining, extensive gin menu. Open 9am-10.30pm.
Afternoon tea: Served Monday-Saturday 1-5.30pm, Sunday 3-5.30pm. From £40pp.
