WHAT WE LOVED...

This classic coaching inn holds centre-stage in the market town of Pickering on the edge of the North York Moors. Interiors are all you'd expect with a cosy low-beamed bar and snug, creaky corridors and a stone-flagged dining room serving up robust Yorkshire dishes. Bedrooms are divided between the charming and more traditional rooms in the main building and spacious more contemporary rooms in converted outbuildings are the rear. Also tucked away at the back is a guest-only 'bothy' lounge with open rafters, sofas and an honesty bar. The inn makes a good base for exploring the moors - dogs are welcome - or enjoying a trip on the restored steam railway or just having a relaxing potter around the neighbouring market towns with their shops and historic castles and abbeys.

We love having both walks across the open moorland and the forest trails of Dalby Forest within around 15 minutes' drive.

Style & Character

People who enjoy their food and want to explore the North York Moors from a comfortable base in a friendly town will love it here. The warmth of the fires, the quirky corners and the creakiness of the old wood floors is all immediately welcoming.

Service & Facilities

If you can find a space, the fire-warmed snug is a good place to catch up on the local craic.

Rooms

Rooms overlooking the Market Place are great for people-watching; particularly on market days. I liked having the choice between characterful rooms, with their quirky shapes, in the main building and airy, quieter rooms in the rear courtyard.

Vintage, Four poster, Hideaway, Hideaway Treat
Facilities include: flat-screen TV, tea and coffee-making facilities, luxurious Bramley toiletries, fluffy bathrobe, Wi-Fi

Food & Drink

We love the fact that as much as possible is made in the kitchens - from black pudding, mayonnaise and tartare sauce to marmalade, bread and ice cream. The next-door deli and café, Feast, is a great place to pick up a picnic lunch or pop in for coffee and cake.

The White Swan Inn resturant: cosy, AA Rosette award-winning food, local produce. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mains from £15.
The White Swan Inn bar: local ales and spirits, country pub environment, high-end bar service. Dogs and kids welcome.
