Learn about the fascinating history of Andalucía as you visit stunning buildings and gardens in Ronda, Seville, Granada, and Córdoba

While the beaches of southern Spain are ever-popular, the cities of Andalucía are where you'll find the quintessential Spanish culture that many people dream of. Embark on this special trip created specifically for solo travellers, and explore this exciting region as part of a group.

This is the land of white-walled villages with winding cobbled streets, magnificent Moorish palaces with fascinating histories, sun-kissed fields of olive trees, and the home of flamenco, sherry, and tapas.

Your adventure begins in the hilltop town of Mijas, where you'll be staying in the four-star Ilunion Hacienda del Sol hotel.

You'll spend three nights in seductive Seville, where you'll experience authentic Andalusian culture with delicious tapas, fiery flamenco, and glorious Moorish and Renaissance architecture. You'll have the chance to explore the fortified palace of the Alcázar and the world's largest Gothic cathedral in this exquisite city.

On your way to Seville, you'll make a stop in Ronda, a spectacular town rising dramatically amid a ring of dark, angular mountains above the gorges of the River Tajo.

In beautiful Córdoba, you'll see another shining example of historical Moorish architecture, the city's Great Mosque and its Patio de los Naranjos, a vast patio shaded by fragrant orange trees.

A highlight of the trip will be a visit to the Alhambra in Granada, a sprawling, ornate Moorish Palace, set against the snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada. The jewel in Andalucia's crown, this fascinating palace and fortress complex is one of the finest remaining examples of western Islamic architecture.

Itinerary

  1. Day
    1
    Arrive in Andalucía
    Mijas, Spain

Today you'll arrive in Malaga, where a coach transfer will take you to the pretty hilltop town of Mijas, to check in at the four-star Ilunion Hacienda del Sol hotel on the outskirts of town.

Tonight, you'll enjoy an informal welcome dinner at the hotel, a chance to mingle with fellow guests and get to know your dedicated tour manager.

  2. Day
    2
    Ronda
    Ronda, Spain

After an energising breakfast at the hotel, you'll head into the Andalucían countryside and travel towards the spectacular city of Ronda.

Built on a ridge high above an impressive gorge, few towns impress visitors so much at first sight. Your tour manager will help you make the most of your visit, and you'll have time to explore and perhaps try your first authentic tapas.

You'll continue your drive this afternoon through more dramatic rural landscapes before arriving in stunning Seville. You'll check in at your base for the next three nights, the centrally located three-star superior Don Paco hotel - perfectly placed for you to take advantage of some great local eateries.

  3. Day
    3
    Seville
    Seville, Spain

Today will be your first full day in beautiful Seville, where you'll see reminders of its illustrious Roman and Moorish history in its exquisite architecture.

Walking around Seville often feels like stepping back in time, with tiny twisting streets and hidden squares where the locals hide from the midday sun in high summer.

Enjoy an illuminating tour of the city, which will take you to the awe-inspiring semi-circular Plaza de España, a fine example of Renaissance Revival and Moorish Revival styles of Spanish architecture. You'll also see the Tower of Gold, which used to store plunder from the Americas, and much more.

In the afternoon you'll have free time to explore more of Seville at your own pace. You could visit the fortified palace of the Alcázar or the world's largest Gothic cathedral - the final resting place of Christopher Columbus. Another option is to take a cruise on one of the many river boats along the serene Guadalquivir.

  4. Day
    4
    Seville
    Seville, Spain

Today you'll have an entire day free to explore Seville in your own way. The city offers such a diverse array of sights that you'll find plenty to fill your time. Explore the Alcázar in more detail, wander around the shops of the old Jewish quarter, take a picnic to Maria Luisa Park, or maybe enjoy a glass of fino sherry alfresco with some of your fellow travellers.

  5. Day
    5
    Córdoba
    Cordoba, Spain

This morning you'll say goodbye to Seville after breakfast and travel east to Cordoba, another captivating Andalusian city. Cordoba was the capital city during Moorish times, and it was here that they built Europe's most beautiful mosque, the Mezquita. You'll be joined by an expert local guide to explore this magnificent building, who'll share details of its intriguing history.

Afterwards, you'll have ample time to explore the twisting streets of Cordoba and step out onto its iconic bridge, before continuing your journey to Granada. On arrival in Granada, you'll check into either the four-star Hotel Alixares just a few moments' walk from the mighty Alhambra palace, or the four-star Hotel Porcel Sabica located in the heart of the town itself.

  6. Day
    6
    Granada and the Alhambra
    Granada, Spain

Granada is a city in a truly spectacular location, set against the snowy peaks of the Sierra Nevada mountains. High above the city sits the Alhambra, regularly listed as one of the must-visit places in the world.

Today you'll visit this glorious palace, visiting the vast gardens of the Generalife and the intricately tiled courtyards, admiring the repeating arches and ornate engravings of the palace itself. The palace is a real icon of Moorish architecture, and it is easy to see why it is one of Spain's most photographed locations.

  7. Day
    7
    Return home
    Granada, Spain

On your final day, you'll enjoy a final relaxing breakfast at your hotel before the coach takes you to Malaga airport for your return flight home.
