Enjoy a tour of the Golden Triangle of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur before boarding the Golden Horizon in Goa and enjoy a classical voyage around the backwaters and beach-studded Indian coastline to Colombo, Sri Lanka’s capital

This amazing South Asia tour start in Delhi where you will emabrk on a five-night tour of the Golden Triangle. You will explore the modernity and history of bustling Delhi before heading to Agra to experience the ethereal Taj Mahal and the imposing Agra Fort. From there it is on to Rajashtan and its captial Jaipur, where arts, crafts, jewellry and vibrant fabrics mix with amazing Mughal and Rajput architecture including the wonderful Palace of Winds.

From here you will head south to the Carnatic and Malabar coasts that were the great emporia of the spice trade. From Mangalore in India to Colombo in what was once British Ceylon, merchants crossed the seas carrying their wares in traditional square-rigged vessels, much like the one you'll voyage on today.

Tradewind's Golden Horizon is an almost direct replica of the 1913-built ocean vessel, France II, and retains the charm, adventure and romance of an historic ship, yet is one that has been built for this century. She boasts exceptional levels of service and comfort and is powered by the prevailing winds for at least 70 per cent of her voyages. With sustainability at her heart as well as beautiful all sea-view cabins and an elegant two-tier dining room, there's no better way to follow in the footsteps of the spice traders and see the beauty of India's southern coastline before sailing to the 'Pearl of the Indian Ocean'.

Your nine-day cruise begins in Goa, one of India's top beach destinations, a relaxed and friendly region with swaying palms and golden sands where you can also choose to stay in a four or five star beach resort beforehand. Alternatively you can add on a nine-day 'Golden Triangle' tour including Delhi, Agra and the Taj Mahal, Ranthambore National park to see the tigers and the 'pink city' of Jaipur. Another pre-cruise option is to spend 12-days exploring Kerala, which you'll also visit on the Golden Horizon.

Your first stop will be Mangalore, which developed in antiquity as a port on the Arabian Sea, and then at the ancient port of Beypore, n the north Kerala coast, known for its wooden shipbuilding. Kerala has over 350 miles of coast and serene backwaters on which you'll have a chance to drift on a traditional houseboat. Kerala's capital is Trivandrum, and from here you can choose to visit fascinating Padmanabhaswami Temple, the beautiful sandy bays of Kovalam or an Ayurveda resort.

After visiting Kanyakakumari (Cape Comorin), the southern most point of India, you'll navigate the Laccadive Sea and sail to Colombo, capital of Sri Lanka where you'll disembark. There are four and five star beach resorts you can extend your holiday to stay at here as well as a six-day culinary tour of the island including the islands famous Ceylon tea plantations.
