Visit some of the county’s magnificent properties, including Raby Castle, Harewood House and Newby Hall, and explore their delightful gardens

Yorkshire is one of our most romantic counties. Its grand Gothic architecture, postcard-perfect towns, and majestic landscapes are loved around the world for their beauty. Impressive country manor houses and stately homes rich in history are dotted across the region, set among some of the most delightful gardens in England.

On this five-day holiday, you'll be based in the lovely spa town of Harrogate, where you'll be well placed to appreciate the beauty of the surrounding countryside and within easy reach of some of the county's magnificent properties and their grounds.

One of the many highlights is a relaxing visit to the innovative gardens at RHS Harlow Carr. Take a stroll around a sub-tropical garden which bursts with colour, a scented garden flush with roses, or the Queen Mother's Lake, a haven for wildlife. There is something to catch the eye at every turn!

You'll also enjoy excursions to three grand estates. Visit Harewood House, with its opulent interiors, Newby Hall, where you can explore the contemporary sculpture park on its grounds, and Raby Castle, to learn its history on a guided tour.

You'll be staying at The Old Swan in Harrogate, a hotel with an intriguing past dating back over 200 years. The hotel is packed with stunning period features across elegant reception rooms, like the magnificent Wedgwood Restaurant, with its original glass ceiling. Kick back in the Swan Lounge and Bar, where you can relax with a drink or a snack overlooking the hotel's peaceful lawns.

Harrogate, United Kingdom

This comfortable four-star hotel is set just steps from the fully restored Victorian Turkish Baths Harrogate

The Old Swan Hotel in Harrogate combines Victorian glamour with elegant contemporary touches and is just a short walk from the town centre. This is one of the most famous hotels in Harrogate, thanks to its romantic past. Once a popular spa, this hotel was once the hideaway of crime queen Agatha Christie when she famously disappeared here in 1926.

With 136 traditionally-styled bedrooms and suites, all with en-suite bathrooms, TVs, and tea and coffee facilities, The Old Swan is the perfect place to get away from it all.
